CREATIVE BOOK REPORT ACTIVITY:
BOOK IN A…

Part 1: Select a container for the book report. You might choose a cardboard box, a paper bag, a manila envelope, or any other container appropriate for your book. Decorate your container in a way that conveys some of the major details, elements, or themes found in the book.

On the front of the container neatly write:
 • Title of the Book
 • Author of the Book
 • Draw a picture of the main character/s
 • Either on the container, or on a sheet of paper that is glued or scotch-taped to the container, draw an illustration of your favorite part of the book.
On the back of the container
 • Write a paragraph about your favorite part of the story. The paragraph can be written on lined paper, cut out and glued or scotch-taped to the container. (A paragraph should be at least 5-7 sentences long.)
 • Also, on the back, write a second paragraph about your opinion of the book. Did you like it? If you did like it, tell me three reasons why. If you did not like it, tell three reasons why you didn’t. You can also describe who might enjoy reading the book.

Part 2: When the containers are decorated, go to work on the contents. Each container should include:
 • Ten Questions: Write ten questions based on the book. Five of the questions may be about general content, but five must ask for more than simple recall – the answers must require thought!
 • Ten Vocabulary Words: Create a ten-word glossary of words from the book that are unfamiliar to you. Write the words and the definitions.
 • Five Items: Place in the container five items that have a connection to the story.

Part 3: Finally, you will present your "Book in a…" project to your classmates. During the oral presentation you will:
 • Give a short summary of the story
 • Explain why you selected the objects in the bag and why they connect to the book.
 • To whom would you recommend the book.
