Mission Statement
The mission of Mother of Christ Catholic After-School Care Program is to
provide a balanced program for the children who need supervision after school
hours. We help the parents by offering a safe and Christian environment for the
children. We will be good examples of Christians, “Children learn what they
live”.
Philosophy
The After School Care Program follows the School’s philosophy. Mother of
Christ Catholic School believes that each child is a gift from God. All school
policies and procedures must be followed at all times by the After School
Program. The responsibilities of the After School personnel include, but are not
limited to the following:
Goals of the Program:
1. To create a safe environment where children
are accepted as unique individuals.
2. To provide the necessary environment where children can complete homework assignments and
study.
3. To help children develop a sense of team spirit and good sportsmanship.
4. To provide extra-curricular activities, this will help enhance the spiritual, physical and
academic development of each child.
Admission Policies: Admission is open to any child who attends Mother of Christ
Catholic School. Registration cost is $50.00 for 1st child, $40 for 2nd child
and $30 for 3rd child.
Hours of Operation: From dismissal until 6:00 P.M. - If a child is left in After School
after 6:00 P.M., a charge of $1.00 a minute for every minute left in After
School care will apply.
Communication: General information about the After School Care Program is given out
during Parent Orientation each school year. The School does not send out payment
notices, afterschool payment is due at the beginning of each month.
Daily Release of Students: Students will be released only to those persons who are
designated on the registration form. Parents must notify the school office in
writing of any changes to be made on the list. The school office will notify the
After School Care Coordinator of any change that occurs during the school day.
Procedures for pick up for the 2010-2011 school year:
In order to maintain the accountability and security of the After School
Program, the procedure for picking up children will be as follows: You are asked
to enter through the Main Doors and sign out at the Afterschool desk by the main
entrance. The children will be delivered directly to the parents, or to persons
specifically designated as authorized on the ASC registration form as well as
any authorized person on the 2010-2011 registration form. We appreciate your
help with this matter. Parents are asked to wait for the children in the waiting
area. The student’s will be called from the room. We ask the parents not walk
directly into the classroom or yard to pick up the children from After School
Care, unless requested by the After School attendant. Students will not be
released to siblings under the age of 18.
Any release of students, which is mandated by legal documentation, should be noted on the
registration form and a COPY OF THE LEGAL DOCUMENT MUST BE
FILED IN THE SCHOOL OFFICE AND IN THE AFTER SCHOOL CARE OFFICE.
Parents must sign out each child when he/she is picked up from the After School Care Program.
Discipline Code: Every child who is part of Mother of Christ After School Care Program
is expected to abide by the policies as stated in the Student Handbook published
by MOC. Each child is expected to respect staff members, other students and
property.
When policies and rules are disregarded, the parents will be notified immediately. In cases of
repeated or major infractions, the principal/pastor will also be notified.
Continuous disregard and/or major infractions may result in the child being
removed from the After School Care Program and possibly the school.
Disciplinary action taken:(can be implemented in any order)
1. Time Out
2. Child/Staff Conference
3. Child/Parent/Staff/Assistant Principal
4. Child/Parent/Staff/Principal
5. Removal from After School Care Program
Conferences will be recorded and filed in the child's school files.
Rules of Behavior: Since each child is unique and valuable in God's sight, each will be
treated with love, respect and concern. Certain behaviors are expected of all
students who participate in the After School Care Program:
1. No child is to leave the supervised area.
2. Each child is expected to participate in all activities to the best of his/her ability.
3. Inappropriate, foul, abusive, or profane language will not be tolerated.
4. Physical violence in any form of biting, pinching, hitting or kicking will not be
tolerated.
5. Each child is expected to "clean up" after himself/herself--snacks, toys, crafts, games,
etc.
6. Quiet time will be provided for the completion of homework. All students will respect the
rights of others to study and be quiet. This period of time will last for one
hour. If a child has no homework or completes the assignment before the allotted
time is over, he/she is expected to engage in silent reading of his/her own
books or those provided by the After School Care Staff.
7. Disrespect toward any staff member will not be tolerated and is considered a major
infraction.
8. Fighting for any reason will not be tolerated.
9. All School rules and policies will be followed.
Health and Safety: Sick children may not remain in the After School Care Program.
Should a child become ill during the school day, the office will notify the
parents to come and take the child home. The After School Care Program will
follow the same procedure should a child become ill after school.
The Staff of the After School Care Program is not permitted by law to dispense any medication
to children, including aspirin or Tylenol. Please do not make this request since
it will not be honored.
Emergency Procedure: All accidents, which occur during the After School Care, will be
reported to the designated representative. Parents will be contacted immediately
if the seriousness of the accident so warrants. It is for that reason that
parents must keep the school and the After School Care Program informed of
changes in phone numbers and emergency contact persons.
In the case of serious accidents where parents cannot be reached, Metro Dade Fire Rescue will
be called. Please be aware that parents may be charged by Metro for transporting
a student to a medical facility. Every effort will be made to contact parents
before Metro Dade Fire Rescue is called.
Snacks: A time for snack will be provided each day for students who participate in the
After School Care Program.
Records: All records are kept confidential and shared only with those staff members who
"need to know." The After School Care Program maintains four basic information
records: attendance, payment, discipline, and accident reports. The After School
Program will keep those records safe, secure, and accurate.
Visitors: Parents or their designated representatives, who come to pick up the
children, are asked to report to the Coordinator/Receptionist instead of walking
to classes or yard to pick up the children.
Evaluation: The School reserves the right to amend the policies, procedures and
handbook for just cause. Parents will be promptly notified in writing if changes
are made.
